Martin Adams and Martin Matthews set up Blueprint Imaging after having worked for a large photographic pro-lab which also had a huge drive-in photo studio. This is where the two of them acquired their printing skills. In the pre-digital era, all the commercial photos were produced in darkrooms, either by hand or by manually operated specialist equipment. A knowledge of colour and density was essential to produce the high quality photos required by demanding clients. When new technology became available, the two of them helped implement the changes, and new skills were picked up along the way. They were both rewarded for their talents when they received 5 accolades between them at the prestigious 'Fuji Colour Printer of the Year Awards'.
When the chance came to go it alone, they couldn't wait to get started. The display graphics market was growing, and they had been involved with it for quite some time, albeit, it was a small part of the business to start with. Their main focus was the automotive industry. Producing thousands and thousands of car photos for the media & journalists, it was a busy, busy period in the history of the business. As times changed, and technology moved forward, the two knew they had to broaden the business and offer more display graphics and signage. At the same time, the large format printers had reached new heights and the quality that was now possible to create opened up the canvas and art market. This came at a perfect time, as their previous darkroom skills went hand in hand with the colour management required to satisfy the art world.
In 2008 Steve Boodell joined the team. Steve had also worked at the original photographic studio with the Martins, but had left to further his career in sales. When Steve arrived at Blueprint, he had already made lots of important contacts and built up some fantastic relationships. His presence soon freed up more time for the Martins to really concentrate on production.
They have invested in new technology over the years, and built up a very comprehensive set of equipment which enables them to create and produce nearly everything in-house.
Martin wears many hats at Blueprint but spends most of his time project managing automotive photo shoots, signage installs, sitting at his imac retouching images, preparing files to print or laying out artworks.
Outside of work Martin is usually found spending time with his partner Jane, running the Abingdon Park Run with his daughter Imogen or on a mountain
bike trail with his son Tom.
After a trek up Kilimanjaro and a spur of the moment cycle trip from Abingdon to Brugges four years ago Martin has turned into a passionate road cyclist. He now spends any of his own spare time training with the local cycling club's race team and has spent the last year competing in local Criterium and road cycle races.
Steve has a wealth of experience in all aspects of the industry having worked in the
Thames valley area for over 30 years with various photographic, printing bureaus, exhibition & signage companies.
Whether it’s working with the general public and advising on the reproduction of a cherished family photo for canvas prints, or liaising with corporate marketing teams on the best display solution for their next event, no task is too big or too small.
After many years of playing and umpiring local hockey matches, leisure pursuits, now include getting out and about on his bike, (albeit at a more leisurely pace than the Martins). Recent 'staycation' breaks and walking in the New Forest and N. York Moors are also enjoyed, and more recently, refereeing weekly 6-a-side football tournaments. He likes to follow his favourite football team Oxford United & attends most home matches.
Steve enjoys listening to live music whether at a local pub venue, especially when his son's band is playing, or his annual treat of travelling to Holland & the open air Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht town square. His favourite holiday is travelling to the Greek islands and aims on staying on a different one each year, 20 + in total so far.
Martin Matthews left school early at 16 and went straight into the photographic industry after a chance meeting at a careers lesson. He started at a schools photography business in Oxford where for the first 6 months he used to frame photos. He moved between departments, picking up skills along the way. He finally settled in the colour hand printing department, where all the photo enlargements were produced. 5 years later, he moved onto a commercial lab where he soon became the head colour printer. Lots of long days and late nights, the busy photo lab grew and grew. Eventually he became production manager, overseeing all the departments. Finally Blueprint was born, and the rest is history!
Martin lives in Witney with his wife Janette, and has two grown up sons, Joe & George. He loves nothing more than a good nap! If he is awake long enough, he is often out on his bike or going for walks or even the odd run.
